WHAT WE BELIEVE

Christian Scientists believe in one, infinite loving God. They believe as they grow in their understanding of the spiritual nature of God and man that they can experience more happiness, health and harmony in their daily lives.
Christian Scientists believe in the Bible and in Christ Jesus as the Son of God, or promised Messiah. And they believe that Jesus’ teachings and healing works expressed scientific Christianity, or the application of the laws of God, laws which are still practical and provable today, by anyone, anywhere. Christian Scientists consider the Ten Commandments, as well as Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, to be central to their lives and practice of Christianity.
Above all, Christian Scientists believe in the saving, healing power of God’s love, that no one is beyond redemption, that no problem is too entrenched or overwhelming to be addressed and healed. They don’t believe that salvation occurs at some point in the future, but that the presence of God’s goodness can be experienced here and now, and by everyone.

One of the best ways to learn more about Christian Science is to explore the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. The Tenets of Christian Science can be found in Science and Health, pages 496-497.

Organization of the Church
We have endeavored to simplify the day to day activities that are needed to keep any organization working. Our emphasis is to focus on healing. Bureaucracy has been minimized and whatever needs to be decided is agreed upon by the group as a whole.
Background of this Christian Science Society of Tampa Bay
In 2004, a small group of dedicated Christian Scientists felt impelled to reach out to others in a more inclusive way. Each of these individuals had found wonderful healings through the study and application of the teachings of Christian Science. It was felt that we had been bound by tradition and, while adhering strictly to the guidelines of the church as established by Mary Baker Eddy, it was believed that more effective ways could be found to be a part of the community and respond to its needs more fully.
Services and meetings were held in private homes and public libraries for several months. These informal settings contributed toward creating a greater sense of love and connections with each other. As the group grew, there was a need to find larger spaces and after a short time we began to meet in the Girl Scout Center in Tampa. Our continual desire is to find new ways to be a part of our community, reach out to others, and be a healing presence in our world.
